“Finance For Enterprise is a responsible and ethical lender which is committed to helping SME businesses overcome growth barriers”.

About us

For more than 30 years Finance For Enterprise has been responsible for helping SME businesses to unlock their growth potential. Today, we are recognised as one of the most trusted and respected alternative lending providers in the North.

Over the past five years alone, Finance For Enterprise has provided £37 million of loans. The funding we have provided has helped to create more than 1400 new jobs with a further 1800 roles safeguarded, resulting in a net economic contribution of more than £140 million.

With offices in South Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire, we deliver a range of tailored lending packages, enabling SME businesses to access loans up to £250,000. Our loans help businesses to invest in new equipment, develop new products and services, as well as creating and safeguarding jobs within the local economy.

We believe in lending responsibly and ethically at all times. We act on behalf of the British Business Bank as fund manager on the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund; and as a regulated lender under the Enterprise Finance Guarantee scheme.

We pride ourselves in being much more than a lending provider. In many cases, we enjoy a close collaborative working relationship with the businesses we are proud to support. Backed by a team of knowledgeable and experienced investment managers we will guide you through the lending process, ensuring any funds provided can lay the foundations for future growth by providing the right lending at the right time.

Our history

1985 was a year of change. It was the year Britain rocked to Live Aid, a 17-year-old Boris Becker took Wimbledon by storm, and it was even possible to purchase a home in London for less than £50,000.

It was also the year which saw the birth of Finance For Enterprise, one of the first UK Enterprise agencies. Backed by British Rail Engineering and trading under the name Donbac, the not-for-profit business aimed to help boost Doncaster’s business economy by combining practical business advice alongside SME business lending.

Interest charged on our loans was invested back into our lending fund, enabling us to help others. Such was the success of our business model that by the 1990s, the scope of our initial loan fund was extended to incorporate the whole of South Yorkshire.

Following the 2008 economic crash, we recognised that many successful and viable businesses were facing uncertain futures, simply because they couldn’t access the vital lending needed from traditional high street lenders.   We stepped in to help, relaunching our loan fund, placing an emphasis upon helping SME businesses unable to access traditional business lending. It’s a model we continue to use today.

We have continued to expand the geographical areas in which operate and today, we are proud to support businesses based throughout the Region including Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire as well as North East Lincolnshire and across The Humber, rebranding to Finance For Enterprise in 2014 to reflect the larger geographical areas in which we operate.

Our commitment towards supporting and building a strong SME economy remains just as important to us today as it did when we first opened our doors back in 1985.
