APW Caravan Services

Early in March 2013 Paul Walton received a loan through the Start Up Loans for Young People, Sheffield City Region, which is part of a national initiative set up to help young people start their own businesses.  Paul, 25, received guidance and support through the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce prior to applying for funding.  The loan helped Paul purchase a work van, specialised tools and equipment, insurance and advertising to start his mobile business APW Caravan Services providing repair and servicing of caravans and motor homes.  Paul first became interested in this trade through work experience at school when he worked for two weeks for a local caravan service repair business.  He was offered a job after he had completed his GCSE’s and he started training as a caravan and motor home engineer.  Over the years Paul has gained lots of qualifications in caravan and motor home servicing.

After only a few months of trading customers were asking Paul for larger repairs and servicing and converting vans into camper vans but he needed a workshop to carry out this type of work.  Paul decided to look for suitable premises and found the perfect location and a workshop at Adwick Business Park a new development situated 5 miles north of Doncaster.  Also on site is a touring caravan and camper storage facility for up to 186 caravans and a car and caravan wash.

By mid May 2013 Paul had moved into the new unit and his Father Paul Walton had decided to join him in the business as an equal partner.  Paul senior has over 20 years of experience in the vehicle industry as a mechanic and he left his previous employment of 16 years to join Paul.

The business now offers a full range of services including repair and service of caravans, horseboxes, trailers and general vehicles, converting vans to campervans, pick-up and deliver service for vehicles and for customers who store their caravans, motor homes in the caravan storage facility on site at Adwick Business Park.

Paul was a little apprehensive about starting his business and taking on debt for the first time but he now says with a big smile on his face that this was the best decision he made and he is very passionate about the work he does and is determined to provide high quality work and prides himself on giving 100% satisfaction to all his customers.

“Paul senior and Paul junior make a great team and with their skills and experience and the location of the workshop make for a really positive start to growing the business”, said Terry Woodhouse, Microloans Manager at Donbac Limited.
